Dear AMEA member,
Last week your AMEA Board of Directors held its first meeting of the year. It was action packed! Here’s what happened:
MOU Timeline Update
Your AMEA Board has been pressing City HR to find out why your MOU—which we ratified earlier in January—is being delayed. Human Resources representatives claim they need additional time to review the red-line version. We were told our MOU will be on the Council Agenda Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. As a reminder, our wages WILL be retroactive to July 4, 2025.
AMEA Endorses Carlos Leon for City Council
The Board and AMEA Political Action Committee endorsed Mayor Pro Tempore Carlos Leon for reelection to City Council in District 2. Mayor Pro Tem Leon is a strong supporter of AMEA and public service, and we have participated with him in several events, including his neighborhood backpack drive. We will knock on doors and talk to voters in support of him later this year.
Class and Comp Update
AMEA has received preliminary information on the classification and compensation study. The City is tentatively planning to proceed with Phase 1 implementation in late February. We are fighting for you.
AMEA Executive Board Reelections
AMEA is member-driven. Our stewards serve on the Board of Directors, and Board members can serve on the Executive Board. On Thursday, First Vice President Jason Perez and Secretary Heather Madrick were reelected to the Board. Congratulations and thank you both for your work!
Celebrating 80 Years of AMEA
This year marks AMEA’s 80th anniversary. Eight decades of workers standing together, winning improvements, and building power in our workplace.
Get Involved
Last year showed what we can accomplish when we unite. Our membership stood strong, and it showed. If you want to get involved in AMEA as a workplace leader, please contact Jona Lee at admin@anaheimamea.com.
In Solidarity,
Jonnae Barreras
AMEA President
